When Kean University of Union, NJ, decided to build a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) building, AVS Installation LLC was selected as the vendor of choice to engineer and install audio-visual systems within the technologically advanced learning center. AVS worked closely with project designer Cosentini Associates as they combined their experience to develop A/V systems in the auditorium and main lobby, two classrooms, and a conference area.

The main auditorium is the keystone of the new STEM building. AVS installed a top-of-the-line sound system to provide event and class attendees with the absolute best listening opportunities possible. Speakers have access to a touch-screen media remote controller located within the main podium, wireless microphones, and the ability to project various types of video through an overhead projector.

Most notable, however, is the digital connection between the main auditorium and classrooms on the fourth floor of the Kean University STEM building. Three projection systems, each of which has the capacity to handle video from a connected computer, DVD input, and local cameras, are located within the auditorium and classrooms. Information from three large projection systems can be forwarded to a central control room. From there, live feeds may be directed from one room that is connected to the network to another room. For instance, the fourth-floor classrooms may be used as overflow spaces for events held in the auditorium if more than 314 seats are required for a popular speaker. Likewise, a class held on the fourth floor could be projected into the auditorium. This system ensures that learning opportunities are not limited by physical space, and helps more students access crucial information.
